TRENDnet has recently launched an external USB-based Wireless adapter to upgrade your laptop or PC to the latest Wireless AC standard. This adapter supports maximum speeds of 433 Mbps, if connected to a Wireless AC Router/Access Point; and 150 Mbps, if connected to a Wireless N Router/Access Point.
According to the site, this compact adapter connects to Windows and Mac systems but occupies one USB port. There is a WPS button on the adapter that enables you to connect securely to a WPS enabled Router/Access Point. It’s a dual-band adapter and is powered by the computer’s USB port. It can connect to any older wireless network – a/b/g/n. It also comes with a 3-year warranty from the manufacturer.
I wonder why Wireless AC adapters that can be fixed inside computers are not being introduced? The USB adapter is the next best choice, but another USB accessory to carry around might be difficult. Often, users might forget to carry them. Also, one precious USB port of the computer is lost by connecting this adapter. Many USB devices are so large and don’t allow us to connect anything on the neighboring port, as well! Effectively two USB ports are lost for an accessory that could have been built-into the computer or fixed inside the computer. This is even more a problem if you have to connect multiple USB-based devices to your computer that has minimum number of USB ports.
The MSRP is $39.99 USD, but it should be available for a lesser price at major stores.
