For this year’s Black Friday Week, Amazon has offered great deals on a few Networking & Storage products for Monday, November 23, 2015.
Here they are, with a short introduction.
#1. Entry-Level NAS (Network Attached Storage): WD 4 TB & 8 TB MyCloud Personal NAS ~
Western Digital NAS appliance is hard drive + NAS case + Wired Network port. This is a stand-alone storage appliance, connect to the network. A NAS is a better/safer option to storage data, compared to storing data on laptops or external hard-drives. Users can backup all data or critical data to the NAS over their network, automatically.
This NAS device can also be used to store and stream music to any computer, mobile or monitor. It comes with a USB port to connect external hard-drives to further increase its storage capacity. Hard-drives are built-in. There are two models: 4 TB 1-bay NAS & 8 TB 2-bay NAS. Click below image for details:
#2. NAS Hard-drive: Seagate 2 TB NAS Hard-drive ~
A hard-drive made for NAS is different from a regular hard-drive as it is built to work 24×7, performs error correction & data integrity check, offers low-power options for always-on profiles, etc. Seagate is a popular hard-disk manufacturer and the deal is for Seagate 2 TB hard-drive. This drive is required if you are planning to buy a diskless NAS or if you want to insert it into empty bays in an existing NAS. Click below image for details:
#3. 8-Port Network Switch: TP-LINK TL-SG 108E 8-Port Gigabit Easy Smart Switch ~
A network switch is the fundamental element of a computer network, in addition to network cables. A network switch is connected via network cables to network devices (like Computer, NAS, IP Camera, etc.) and also to Modem+Router. This enables all the network devices to access Internet and also communicate with each other. Two network switches can be connected via a network cable to extend the network.
TP-Link is a popular network switch manufacturer and this is an 8-port switch, meaning 8 network devices can connect via. network cables to this switch. This model is a smart switch that supports manageable switch features like link aggregation, VLAN, QoS, etc. There is an easy-to-use GUI-based management interface. Network cables are not included. If your cable TV provider gives you Internet connection also, you could look at buying the Cable Modem + Router unit. Your cable TV provider may have provided you with a modem, but he might be charging a monthly rental for the same. If you buy your own unit, you can avoid those rentals. Besides, this cable modem will support higher Internet speeds than your old modem. WiFi router is also included in the same unit – WiFi devices on your network can connect to Internet without any additional infrastructure.
The TP-LINK Archer CR700 supports 16×4 DOCSIS 3.0 standard and provides up to 680 Mbps Internet download speeds. This modem is certified to work with XFINITY from Comcast, Time Warner, Cable Vision, and Bright House. It also comes with Dual-band AC WiFi Router supporting speeds of up to 1750 Mbps. #5. Desktop Attached Storage (DAS): Drobo DDR3A21 Gen 3 DAS ~
A Direct Attached Storage (DAS) unit expands the storage capacity of a desktop or a laptop computer by providing a large external hard-drive case that can hold multiple hard drives. This unit is both for extended storage and backup, but connects only to one computer at a time. This is not a centralized storage device, unlike a NAS.
The Drobo DDR3A21 Gen 3 DAS connects to a desktop or a laptop through a USB 3.0 port. This unit supports a maximum of 24 TB storage capacity via four hard drives (not included). It supports RAID – the system can recover data even if a hard-drive fails. It is available for both Mac and Windows. Click below image for details:
A Wireless Router connects to an Internet Modem in order to enable WiFi network access (and Internet access) to all WiFi-enabled devices like tablets, laptops, mobiles, etc. over the wireless medium instead of cables.
The Linksys AC3200 WiFi Router is a Tri-band AC router that supports combined speeds of up to 3200 Mbps. This is one of the fastest WiFi routers available in the market today and can be used to connect and stream multiple HD videos to multiple devices across the network, without lag. It also has 4 wired Gigabit ports. Click below image for details:
#7. 2-Bay NAS (Network Attached Storage): WD 2100 Expert Series 2-bay NAS ~
A NAS is a stand-alone device that connects to the network. It is used for centralized storage and backup of data, files & media. You can stream media to multiple devices using the NAS, which is almost a server, but primarily used for external storage.
The WD 2100 2-bay NAS can hold up to 12 TB of data via. two hard-drives (which are included along with this unit). RAID is supported, which enables you to recover data even if one drive fails. Backup software enables you to take full or partial backup automatically on PCs and Macs (via. Time Machine). USB 3.0 port enables you to add additional storage, if required.
#8. Power Line Adapters: TP-LINK TL-PA6010 KVT AV600 Powerline adapter kit ~
A power line adapter (set of two) helps you to extend a computer network in places where network cables are not available, but power cables are. Through these adapters, you can use power cables and power adapters to send data (and hence Internet) across your home.
The TP-LINK TL-PA6010 KVT AV600 Powerline adapter kit supports speeds of up to 600 Mbps. There are Gigabit Ethernet ports on both sides. You need to connect a network cable on both adapters to connect network devices like computers, modem, etc. The maximum distance between the two networked power adapters is 300m.
